Andrew Fitch Papers, 1777-1781

1777 to 1781
Record books of Andrew Fitch of Lebanon, Connecticut. He was commissioned on January 1, 1777, as a captain of the 4th Connecticut Infantry in Colonel John Durkee's Regiment and later with the 4th Regiment in the Connecticut Line. He wintered at Valley Forge in 1777-1778 and in early 1779 was in defense of the Connecticut coast at Fairfield. He died in August 1811 at the age of 63. The collection consists of two orderly books in which he recorded DIvision and Brigade orders. In 1778 he recorded a court martial. The 1780 volume include some accounts of Lydia Leffinwell for spinning, washing and weaving; her relationship to Fitch or the 4th Regiment is unknown.
