Punderson family papers, 1751-1889

1751 to 1889
The collection consists of papers, primarily correspondence, of the Punderson, Geer, and Rossiter families. Ebenezer Punderson (1702-1764) is represented by two letters he wrote in 1751 to Governor Roger Wolcott of Connecticut requesting his salary, which should have been raised from tax collections. The collection also contains two warrants for Ebenezer Punderson (1735-1809), one demanding he answer to his sister Hannah in 1775 and the other ordering the confiscation of goods from him and his brother Cyrus in 1776. The collection also contains the journal and chapbook of Prudence Punderson, circa 1770s/1780s, filled with poems, writings, and nature drawings and sketches which relate to needlework in the CHS museum collection. The volume also consists of copies of her incoming and outgoing correspondence, particularly with her sisters, mother, and Sally Rossiter. The collection also includes the correspondence of Sophia Rossiter Geer, especially with her father, Timothy Wells Rossiter and the papers of James Geer, who represented Sophia in a legal case concerning the estate of her father. Also in the collection are letters and invitations received by Punderson Geer, son of Sophia Rossiter Geer and Nathan Geer. Lastly, the collection also contains family history and genealogy notes, photographs, letters of unidentified correspondents, and ephemera.
