Description
The East Webster railroad station was located in Webster, Massachusetts and was a stop on the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad when this shot was taken. This stop was originally established by the Southbridge & Blackstone Railroad which later became the New Haven's Southbridge Branch. Photograph taken by Lewis Herbert Benton. The iconic bicycle that Benton reportedly used for travel to intermediate depots is seen at right as it is in many of his early shots. It is assumed that he transported it in the train's baggage car. It is rare that Benton took more than one shot of a depot but compare to his number 2561 which he snapped later when he and fellow photographer Irving Drake were journeying together in Drake's sedan. Map location approximate. Description provided by Robert Joseph Belletzkie.
