Abraham Augur sued William Nichols for saying that he "is a Traitor to the State of Connecticut, & the united States of America, & he (meaning the Pl[aintif]f) gave to one Jacob Smith, (meaning one Smith an Officer in the Service of the King of Great Britain then & now at open war with the s[ai]d State & s[ai]d United States) the Sum of Fourteen Pounds lawful money, for the purpose of hiring Soldiers to enlist under s[ai]d Smith, to Serve in the army of s[ai]d King of Great Britain against s[ai]d State & s[ai]d United States."
