Description
Legal notice of "Cheney Brothers vs. Edward Pollard, et al, Superior Court, Hartford County, First Tuesday, October, 1902, Olin R. Wood, Attorney for Plaintiff." In July 1902 workers at the Cheney Brothers Silk Manufacturing Company in South Manchester, Connecticut, tried to organize to prevent the company from forcing the weavers to work on two looms at one time, instead of one loom. The company fired the workers "on account of their refusal to comply with said request." The notice then indicated the workers "conspired, combined and confederated together with each other and...the United Textile Workers...to maliciously injure the plaintiff and to cripple, injure and destroy its said business and to prevent the plaintiff from employing any other persons than themselves, and to prevent any persons from entering into the employ of the plaintiff in their stead, by means persuasions, threats, and intimidations of various sorts, for the purpose of compelling the plaintiff to accede to the demands of the defendants..."
