Embargo Content

Last Updated, March 19, 2024.

Within the CTDA, you may wish to restrict access to a collection, object, and/or to the media associated with an object for users at a certain IP range (ex. On-site only at a University) or based on a time date. A common use case for embargoing content would be for research publications, forthcoming collections for an exhibit, or for thesis and dissertations.

The Embargo option provides you with multiple options depending on your specific use case. Included below is an overview of how to apply an embargo based on the node (think of this like the entire record for the object to include metadata, media, and to exclude it from and search results) and the file level which will embargo the media but enable the metadata to be viewable and discoverable.

IP based embargoes allow you to restrict access to the object(s) and/or media to a defined IP range. These are helpful when you want to restrict access to a collection for on-campus or other on-site users and exclude off-site users from accessing the content. To add IP ranges, contact the CTDA.
